Day 74, Wednesday
Home
Finally made it back. It has truly been a trip of a lifetime. It's good to be home again.
Day 70, Saturday
New Orleans, LA
It has been said that if you love New Orleans it will love you back. It has been a great visit to this city and I will be back for sure.
Day 64, Sunday
Bandelier, CO
Exploring ancient native American cave dwellings today. To reach Alcove Cave, nestled up in a cliff, it takes four wooden ladders and narrow steps to reach it 140 feet up in the sky.
Day 54, Thursday
Los Angeles, CA
Life is different here in LA. The sun shines most every day. There is an abundance of Mexican restaurants. The freeways typically have four or more lanes. Traffic is usually moderate to heavy. The news centers around the weather, robberies, and traffic. Also, high-speed car pursuits are televised regularly.
Day 33, Friday
Portland, OR
It's a beautiful day in Portland with surprising sun and blue sky. It's nice to be out of the state of Washington and leave the rain behind. It's been great visiting and catching up with an old high school friend named Gwen.
Day 24, Friday
Yellowstone Park, WY
Today we got to see bison, elk, and a moose with her calf. It was a very good day to see wildlife. We also got to the see Old Faithful geyser and the other thermal features in the caldera. Quite an interesting and unique landscape, something you need to visit in person for the full experience.
Day 22, Wednesday
Boise, ID
We're off to visit Craters of the Moon National Monument.
Day 19, Sunday
Rapid City, SD
Leaving Rapid City for Devils Tower in the morning, Mt. Rushmore in the afternoon.
Day 18, Saturday Warroad, MN
Leaving Warroad, MN and now we are going to Fargo, Bismarck, Pierre, and then Rapid City.
Day 17, Friday Warroad, MN
Today we visited the northern most point in the lower 48. We met and talked with the friendly northern most resident as well.
Day 16, Thursday Warroad, MN
Today we pushed north into Paul Bunyan territory. We are heading towards the northwest angle, or "the angle", or "the chimney" as the locals call it. It is the little neck that sticks up past the rest of the states to make it the most northern part of the lower 48. One Minnasotan asked "why would anyone want to driving up to that God forsaken place?".
It is very sparse and rural up here. They don't even bother putting up speed limit signs in the country here.
Day 15, Wednesday Minneapolis/St. Paul
Earlier in the day we visited Fitchburg, WI. It was interesting to compare and contrast this relatively newly incorporated city with our older home town.
We have driven well over six thousand miles so far. At this point we could have driven back and forth the east coast to the west!
Day 16, Tuesday Chicago
I want to give a shout out to our new friends from the Chicago Hard Rock Cafe. Stay tuned... we will be posting our results of the Chicago deep dish pizza taste test.
Day 15, Monday Chicago
After a couple of days of of not too much sleep it was nice to sleep in until 11 am.
Had lunch with Axelle. We first met by a chance at a Starbucks in downtown Chicago earlier this year, just days after the earthquake in Haiti. I was contacting my friends from Haitian Outreach while she was reading news and wondering what she could do to help with Haiti. Two months later Axelle would find herself in Port-au-Prince helping out and donating her time with Haitian Outreach.
Tonight we will explore the city and see the sights.
